Game data sources and estimation methodology
Updated . MomoRank separates platform observations, sample statistics and model estimates. An estimate is never an official publisher disclosure.
Platform observations
Steam store listings provide game identity, publisher, release information and regional prices. Steam charts and the public player-count API provide chart positions and simultaneous online players. Concurrent players are not daily active users, owners, downloads or sales. A chart rank is an ordinal observation, not a revenue amount.
App Store and Google Play listings and recorded charts provide regional prices, ratings and ranking observations. Each observation retains its market and collection date. A listing’s version update date is different from MomoRank’s collection time. Missing data is not zero; an absent chart entry does not mean a game is unavailable.
Estimated sales and revenue
For eligible paid Steam base games, the baseline uses the number of Steam-purchase reviews, multiplied by 20–60 copies per purchase review (central assumption: 35). Estimated customer spend multiplies estimated copies by the US dollar list price and a realized-price share of 25%–75% (central assumption: 50%). These are sensitivity assumptions, not fitted accuracy claims or statistical confidence intervals. Historical discounts and regional sales mix are not reconstructed.
Values describe modeled cumulative paid base-game sales and customer spend, not developer net receipts. DLC, in-app purchases and key sales are excluded; taxes, refunds and platform fees are not individually reconciled. Free-to-play games do not receive a paid-base-game revenue estimate. A higher estimate does not prove higher actual revenue.
A calibrated model may replace the baseline only after held-out validation and explicit publication. Models retain a version, training window and expiry; unsupported inputs fall back to the labeled baseline or remain unavailable. Full estimates remain subject to membership access.
Playtime samples
Reviewer playtime is the cumulative playtime reported for sampled public reviewers, with the sample date and count recorded. It is not the mean for all players, a session length, or daily engagement. Samples may be affected by review-selection bias.
Report standards and corrections
Reports identify their observation window, source, cohort and calculation. Growth compares the same games at both endpoints; missing observations are excluded, never filled with zero. Reports cover observed samples rather than the entire Steam market. We publish one substantive report per observation period and do not create separate near-duplicate pages for every filter.
